The long time surf brand WEST has recently developed a new fabric that is made up of:

85% recycled plastic water bottles

15%bamboo fibres

Making this material a very eco friendly development. West are labeling this new material “ECOLYCRA” and have used it in some of their rash vests this season.

As you know recycling PET water bottles reduces landfill, plastic in the oceans and the need to create more virgin materials. Did you know that some parts of the Pacific Ocean around the islands contain six times more plastic than plankton?So it’s great that WEST are helping put the plastic to good use.

The beauty of bamboo is that it’s one of the world’s fastest growing plants and it requires no pesticides and little water to grow. A great plant for reproduction in today’s current dry and harsh climate conditions.

Bamboo is strong, lightweight and naturally UV resistant, making it a great selection to be used within surfing products.
